Violet Ray is a new band in the local punk rock scene, formed just last year to play its own original music with a social justice theme. Its members include vocalist/rhythm guitarist Billy Somerville, lead guitarist Mike Layton, bassist Rick Kaufman and drummer Ryan Gearhardt.
“Our message is to encourage people to think for themselves, take pride in being an individual and most of all the belief that one person can make a difference in making the world a better place,” they say in their bio.
Now they’re ready to drop some music on the world. They’ll introduce their album at a release show at the Happy Dog in Gordon Square, where they’ll be joined by Cleveland punk scene veteran Aaron Civil War and his band the Brave Girls.
Admission is $5. And because the band says, “Unless we are raising money for a cause in our community we will not play,” it’s also a benefit for the Northeast Ohio Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation
