MANSFIELD: A Police Tragedy

This one really has folks in the black community scratching their collective head. Like it or not, the majority of killings in Cleveland are carried out by blacks, that’s just a fact. So it would seem to follow that if you want to catch the shooters you’d need some cops who have sources, acquaintances and trust in the black community, cops that people would be amenable to talking to straight up and off the record. Is this making sense so far?

If it is, then can you explain to me why Police Chief Calvin Williams would assign three white cops like Steve Loomis, Aaron Reese, and Daniel Lentz to the Homicide Unit as detectives? Come on, these three guys? Really? Is this the best we got for the homicide unit? Please.

I know that police departments all over the country are the most highly politicized organizations in any city, but there should be a limit on how far a department is willing to go to appease the white rank-and-file power brokers. You know, those cops that if they don’t get their way they will simply quit doing their jobs — or threaten to, until they do get their way. It’s sickening.

These promotions basically say that there is little concern within the Cleveland Division of Police in regards to solving homicides (which, of course, would in turn reduce the homicide rate) because politics takes priority over commonsense promotions. And will any member of city council say or do anything? No, of course not.

No one is going to say or do anything about this travesty, which, in and of itself is the real travesty. Chickenshits.
