CityMusic Cleveland’s Chamber Series Brings Wind Music to Waterloo & Van Aken

Sat 1/19 @ 6:30PM

Sun 1/20 @ 1PM

In addition to its full-scale concert series, CityMusic Cleveland hosts more intimate concerts in alternative venues as part of its chamber music series.

This week the North Coast Winds, with Kimberly Zaleski on flute, Mary Kausek on oboe, Arleigh Savage on bassoon and Emily Rapson on horn, will be joined by guest clarinetist Daniel Gilbert, who played with the Cleveland Orchestra for two decades until becoming a faculty member at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance in 2007, for a pair of shows, one at Praxis Fiber Workshop’s Gallery Saturday evening, the other at Van Aken Market Hall in Shaker Heights Sunday afternoon.

Their program includes Gabriel Pierné’s Pastorale, Carl Nielsen’s Wind Quartet and Darius Milhaud’s seven-movement La cheminée du roi René suite, all written in the late 19th-mid 20th century, along with contemporary Cleveland-born composer Eric Ewazen’s three-part, nature-inspired Roaring Fork Quintet.

Both concerts are free.
