Labor Day Parade and Picnic at Luke Easter Park Is the Place to Be on Labor Day

Mon 9/3 @ 10AM

One of Cleveland’s beloved Labor Day traditions is the 11th Congressional District parade, started in 1971 by the late Congressman Louis Stokes and carried on by his successors, Stephanie Tubbs Jones and now Marcia Fudge.

The huge parade wends its way down Kinsman Avenue from E. 146th, packed with delegations from businesses, non profits and city agencies, candidates and office holders, fraternal groups and labor unions, marching bands and drill teams. They all file by the reviewing standing at Luke Easter Park, where Fudge and other local dignitaries hold court. Afterwards, everyone heads into the park where there are vendors, food trucks, activities for kids where they can run off the sugar high from all the candy they’ve collected, and the high school band faceoff, always a highlight.

The place will be crawling with candidates, so you’ll have a chance to meet them and talk to them face to face. And the Board of Elections will have a table where you can register to vote and pick up information about the upcoming November 6 election, so there’s no excuse for you to say “I don’t know if I was registered”or “I don’t know how to find my polling place.”

It’s free and open to all whether you live in the 11th district or not.

  1. I would like to know how my organization can be apart of the parade as well as host a vendor table.

  2. Anastasia Pantsios

I would call Marcia Fudge’s office at 216-522-4900 and ask who is overseeing the event this year.
