Four Emerging Artists Featured in Harris Stanton Gallery Akron’s New Directions Show

Thu 1/10 @ 5:30-8PM

Harris Stanton’s Akron Gallery puts the spotlight on younger and emerging talent for its next show New Directions. It will include the work of four artists, recently graduates of area universities and the Cleveland Institute of Art.

Stephanie Spyker assembles multiple small, manipulated photos assembled to create a single piece that looks at one location from different perspectives. Joe Karlovec, a KSU grad, builds on the surface of his paintings with materials such as foam, tape, wood and plastic, creating pieces that merge painting and sculpture.

CIA grad Austin Turner works with a 3D modeling program to alter images of locations which he then further distorts in his painting. And CIA grad Mike Mentz creates interactive glass sculptures featuring line patterns.

The show opens with a wine and cheese reception Thu 1/10 @ 5:30-8pm and runs through Sat 2/9.
