This week, the Rock Hall debuts a new exhibit called Play It Loud: The Instruments of Rock & Roll. Co-curated with, of all places, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the display features an enormous array of important and iconic instruments going back to 1939, which obviously pre-dates rock & roll, many on view to the public for the first time.
The show closed at the Met in October, before moving to the Rock Hall where it will be augmented by additional pieces making a show so large it will occupy three floors, the biggest the Rock Hall has ever done. The exhibit will also include costumes and videotaped interviews with artists.
Play It Loud opens with a party this week which will include special inductee guests Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo of Metallica, who certainly know about playing it loud, the Eagles’ Don Felder and Heart’s Nancy Wilson. All have instruments in the exhibit. Tickets are $30 for Rock Hall members, $50 for non-members, which includes the exhibit, live music by local artists Madeline Finn, Jul Big Green, Kid Tigrrr and Falling Stars, a dessert bar and a drink ticket.
