Documentary at the Capitol Theatre Explores the Ripple Effect of Suicide

Wed 9/19 @ 7:30PM

When Kevin Hines was 19, he tries to commit suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. He didn’t succeed. Now 36, he’s coping with the issues the led him to that point, and he’s the central figure in the new documentary film Suicide: The Ripple Effect, now a voice in the suicide prevention movement.

While it sometimes seems like a futile task to convince someone not to take their own life — something that’s done for deeply seated personal reasons — the film takes the approach of showing how a suicide attempt affects those around the person. In it, Hines looks at the family, friends and first responders who saved him and those working to save others.

The film will screen at the Capitol Theatre. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention of Northeast Ohio will have an information table in the lobby and will lead a Q&A after the film. Tickets are $11 and must be reserved in advance here.
