Kent’s Standing Rock Cultural Arts is always taking visitors on musical journeys without leaving its North Water Street Gallery via its Around the World concert series.
Its upcoming program is an evening of Indian classical ragas, featuring sitar player Hans Utter. Multi-instrumentalist/composer/producer/educator Utter brings with him a vast range of music experience in multiple genres (including jazz, classical, blues and rock), enhanced by his extensive travels. He lived in India where he immersed himself in Hindustani North Indian classical music, currently the main focus of his career. He also earned a PhD in ethnomusicology from The Ohio State University.
He’ll be joined by tabla player Joe Culley, a longtime drummer who currently focuses on his own passion for Indian music.
