Come Bask in Nostalgia for Euclid Beach Park at its Original Location

Sun 9/30 @ 1-5PM

Euclid Beach Park in the North Collinwood neighborhood closed at the end of the 1969 season, a victim of changing tastes in amusement parks and the lust for bigger, scary roller coasters at big parks like Cedar Point. But those who visited as kids still feel nostalgia for the place — and many younger people are beguiled by the easygoing, slightly scuffy vibe of the older parks most of which disappeared by the late 70s/early 80s (Chippewa Lake Park in Medina closed in 1978; Youngstown’s Idora Lake Park in 1984).

The annual Remembering the Sights & Sounds of Euclid Beach Park, now in this 14th year, feeds that nostalgia. Taking place on the site of the old park, where only one entrance archway remains, it includes a walking tour showing where different attractions were located, memorabilia displays, rides on the Rocket Car and Thriller Car, rescued from the park, and the Humphrey popcorn balls and taffy which were so beloved you can now get them at area supermarkets. looking back at the park that closed in 1969. There will even be a car show featuring vintage vehicles families might have driven to the park in.

Admission is free.
