Guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Lea Marra calls her music “porch folk,” as she works — successfully — to convey an easy-going warmth in both her music and its performance. Despite writing and performing music since childhood and earning a degree in music therapy, her music — influenced by folk-rock and country artists such as the Dixie Chick, the Cranberries and Six Pence None the Richer — has an engagingly unstudied feel. Over time, she and her band, which she now calls the River Boys, have evolved from being a densely arranged Americana rock act to something sparser and woodier, with just four other members who together play guitar, mandolin, banjo and upright bass, topped with three-part harmonies, giving their music a folk/bluegrass feel.
The group released their first album called Ace of Cups in March 2024, although Marra herself put out two earlier albums.
They’ll be performing at Trinity Cathedral downtown across from Cleveland State University as part of its Brownbag lunchtime concert series. It’s free and open to all.
