Ohio Shakespeare Festival Brings “The Tempest” to Stan Hywet Gardens

Thu 7/3-Sun 7/20

The Tempest is Shakespeare’s dreamiest and most fantastic play in which a magician (Prospero) is castaway on an island with his daughter (Miranda) and two contrasting servants (Caliban and Ariel). Drama, comedy and romance ensue. While the supernatural is involved, it also deals with human actions such as trickery, revenge, resentment and reconciliation.

It’s an ideal play to be performed outdoors, as it will be when the Ohio Shakespeare Festival returns to Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens this week. While not necessarily a representation of a water-surrounded island, the trees and flowery meadows of Stan Hywet will add to the magic. Gates open at 6pm for outdoor picnicking. The Greenshow, a traditional Shakespeare-era introduction to a show which offers a 30-minute summary of what the audience will see, starts at 7:30pm, with showtime at 8pm.

The Tempest runs Thursdays through Sundays through July 20. Get tickets here.
