Once again this summer, the City Club moves outdoors for a series of forums, taking place on Playhouse Square Plaza right across the street from the City Club’s offices. Each Wednesday in July it invites interested people to stop by for a free discussion of a topic relating to the city of Cleveland.
The kickoff forum will be dedicated to an event that has local movie buffs buzzing: the July 11 release of the film Superman, which was filmed in Cleveland last summer. As many locals know, the character of Superman was conceived by a pair of Cleveland teenagers, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, back in 1933, so the city has always felt ownership of the character. In fact, we’re told that the nonprofit Siegel and Shuster Society is planning to create a Superman statue in downtown Cleveland.
You’ll undoubtedly learn more about that at this forum, where Valentino Zullo of the Siegel and Shuster Foundation will be one of the Panelists, along with Bill Garvey from the Greater Cleveland Film Commission. Ideastream’s Mike McIntyre will moderate a discussion about how the film was made here and what’s been done to bring more attention to this particular Cleveland legacy.
While they appreciate registration, it’s not required.
