Chamberfest Cleveland Returns with a Dozen Concerts on the Theme “Lost and Found”

Wed 6/11-Sat 6/28

This week Chamberfest Cleveland, founded in 2012 by Cleveland Orchestra principal clarinetist emeritus Franklin Cohen and his daughter Diana, currently concertmaster of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, kicks off its 2025 season of programming this week with another two+ week series of music events at a variety of mostly intimate venues, both traditional and not, with the theme “Lost and Found.”

“The human experiences of searching, loss, and recovery are universal, and can take many different forms,” says the co-directors, who now also include Diana Cohen’s husband, pianist Roamn Rabinovich. “With this season, we aim to create a dialogue between historical and modern interpretations of this timeless theme, explored through the uniquely personal lens of chamber music.”

Its opening night event takes place at Cleveland Institute of Music’s Mixon Hall on Wednesday June 11 @ 7:30pm. But first, at 6:30, executive director Jessica Peek Sherwood will welcome the audience to the event, prior to performances of J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Two Keyboards in C major, Michael Stephen Brown’s The Lotos-Eaters, and Felix Mendelssohn’s String Octet in E-flat major. And there’s a reception following the opening night concert.

Subsequent concerts take places at venues such as Heights Theatre, the East Cleveland Public Library, the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, Case Western Reserve’s Harkness Chapel and more, with music by the predictable quartet of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Mozart, as well as contemporary and under-recognized composers. Nearly three dozen musicians will be performing during the event.
