78th Street’s Third Friday Offers Diverse New Art Shows, Vendors, Music and More

Fri 5/16 @ 5-9PM

Every Third Friday at 78th Street Studios you can find interesting things happening on all four floors, whether you’re visiting the studio of an artist you like or checking out a brand-new show at one of the galleries.

One new show that sounds like a lot of fun is Be Kind, Rewind: A Nostalgia Show, taking place at E1even2 Gallery, whose specialty is affordable art and whose shows tend to have accessible, pop-culture themes. This one draws from pop culture in a major way: it evokes the nostalgia we can feel about the toys, games, music and movies of our childhood. “This group exhibition transforms memory into masterpiece,” they promise. It features the work of two dozen artists including E11even2 co-owners R!ch Cihlar and George Kocar, muralist/painter Bob Peck (above), printmaker Hannah Mannochio and more. It will be on view through June 20.

HEDGE Gallery is opening its latest show, featuring the moody, elegiac work of veteran Cleveland artist Douglas Max Utter, Justin Brennan, whose work balances on the edge of abstraction and figurative, and Clay Parker, known for his boundary-pushing flyer art for Cleveland underground/punk bands in the 90s.

Also new this month is From Light, featuring the photo-based work of Steven Mastroianni and Jamie Richey. It’s at Context Gallery at the back of the building’s top floor. Gallery Plus is debuting work by Liberian- and African-American artists Martin Zeinway, Jerome White and Isaiah Williams. It will be on view through July 18.

NorthCoast Promotions will have its guest vendors on the RAMP level and first floor event space, and Colin John, Jeff Tucker and Sergio Magic will be performing in various spaces in the building. As always, Third Friday is free and open to all, including well-behaved pets.
