Sat 4/26 @ 1PM
If you’ve ever wanted to see how dorky Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne and Cleveland Mayor Justin M. Bibb look in bicycle helmets, join them and Cleveland Metroparks CEO Brian Zimmerman for a Celebrate Trails Day bike ride and community walk to kick off the season of recreational walking, hiking and cycling.
It kicks off at 1pm from Canal Basin Park, where it will also end. The idea behind the day, which was started in 2013 by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, is to encourage people to get moving to take advantage of outdoor amenities. The event is also the launch of Cuyahoga County’s Bike-with-a-Mayor season to raise awareness of the Cuyahoga Greenways Plan and the 300-plus trails and bikeways in various county communities.
This bike/walk will have two options: an eight-mile bike loop supported by Slow Roll Cleveland, a group that hosts social rides each Monday all summer in different Cleveland neighborhoods and a trail-only, kid-friendly walk of up to three miles.
Helmets are encouraged, and all participants must bring a working bicycle. The Ohio City Bicycle Co-op will be available to do bike safety checks, and both Bike Cleveland and Slow Roll Cleveland will be providing trail support. Ater the event, they’ll be providing information about upcoming trail projects on the upper level of the Flat Iron Café.
The event is free and open to all. Get more information and weather updates here.
