Dobama Theatre is always on the cutting edge of local theater, often presenting regional or even world premieres. But their next offering extends that work. George Brant’s Rust: A story of Steel and Grit is a world premiere commissioned by Dobama.
It’s based on a memoir by Eliese Colette Goldbach, and how her life changed by her stint working in a Cleveland steel mill. Embracing signature aspects of Cleveland’s economy, culture and history, it’s the perfect piece to debut in a Northeast Ohio theater
Directing the piece is former Cleveland Play House artistic director Laura Kepley, who says “Cleveland, where I spent 12 years, will always hold a special place in my heart especially because of the people who embody the city’s spirit of tenacity, spiky humor, and civic pride. Forged in Cleveland, Eliese’s story is one of overcoming fear and finding hope and a sense of authentic belonging in unexpected places.”
