CVNP Opens its Free Outdoor Concert Series at Howe Meadow

Sun 6/11 @ 4-6PM

It’s a big week for the launch of outdoor summer concert series. Cuyahoga Valley Nation Park’s long-running summer music series in Howe Meadow is back. Formerly Music in the Meadow, it’s been rebranded as Rhythm on the River, but it’s still a great chance relax in a truly bucolic outdoor setting to enjoy some music and the company of friends in the second Sunday of each month through September.

While the series is promoted as family friendly, the local artists who’ve been booked definitely appeal to an older, more adult crowd, with laidback sounds. Northeast Ohio’s two best-known and most veteran “smooth jazz” acts, mixing soul and pop sounds with jazz grooves, open the season. Forecast kicks things off on Sunday June 11 and Hubb’s Groove & friends with Brian Simpson holding own the July 9 slot. (Hubb’s Groove also opens the popular Wade Oval Wednesday series on June 14.)

On August 13 Akron vocal group Real Deal will perform, and on September 9, things will get a bit livelier with popular, long-running Cleveland reggae act, Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band.

The concerts are all free: bring your lawn chair or blanket. Gates open at 2pm, giving people a chance to enjoy the setting and have a picnic or get something from one of the foods trucks onsite before music starts at 4pm. There’ll also be games for the kids.
