Toledo-Based Jazz Vocalist Ellie Martin Shares her Debut Album at the BOP STOP

Wed 5/31 @ 7-8:30PM

Vocalist/composer/educator Ellie Martin, who grew up in Florida, started her musical journey as a classical vocalist with a bachelors degree from Montreal’s McGill University. But she switched tracks when she arrived at the University of Toledo where she earned a masters degree in jazz performance. And jazz is where she rooted herself, continuing on to get a PhD in jazz studies at the University of Pittsburgh.

She’s remained in the Great Lakes area, settling in Toledo, where she performs around the area (including Detroit) regularly. She’s now on an album release tour for her debut album Verdant, which showcases her original material infused with jazz, pop and Latin influences. She’s bringing with her the band that plated on her album including bassist Kurt Krahnke, drummer Dr. Olman Piedra, and Israeli guitarist Ariel Kasler.

Her tour arrives at the BOP STOP on Wednesday May 31.  Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Go here for more info and tickets. The show will also be livestreamed on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page.
