John Carroll Radio Station WJCU Hosts Six-Hour Throwback Event

Tue 3/28 @ 6PM-midnight

Once upon a time — a very long time ago — the John Carroll University radio station then known as WUJC, broadcast from the now unoccupied Clock Tower studio on campus. Its last broadcast there was in 1984 — until this coming week.

For six hours, the station, now WJCU-FM 88.7, will broadcast from its old location for the first time in 14,000 days for a student-led event called WJCU Presents: Turn Back the Clock. The broadcast will include all genres of music from every decade starting in the 60s, interview and the return of more than 100 station alumni who’ve said they’ll be involved. Even university Heights Mayor Michael Dylan Brennan will be on the air.

WJCU air personality, JCU junior Zachary Sinutko, one of the hosts and producers of 808s & Mixtapes, says, “It’s crazy to think that the last broadcast was in 1984. My parents were in 1st grade when the last broadcast went over the air. I am truly honored that we get to be the on-air personalities for this monumental broadcast.”

The event will start with 60s music at 6pm and move to a different decade hourly. Event hosts include Sinutko, Emily Davala, Collin Kennedy, and Daunte Horton, all of 808s & Mixtapes, plus Joe and Lauren Gumney of Old Rock vs New Rock.

You can listen to the broadcast from anywhere on WJCU.org.
