Cleveland Arts Prize Offers Tours of Area Art Collections

Work by Amber D. Kempthorne

Tue 3/28

If you’ve got a passion for art and want to help bankroll the nonprofit Cleveland Arts Prize, which had been making monetary awards to people and organizations in all areas of the arts and at all stages of their careers since the early 60s, here’s a great opportunity for you: a series of six monthly events titled “Art Collection Tours of CLE: A Tuesday Night Series.”

Each month, participants will visit another of the area’s art collections held by a local institution/ organization that only puts a few works on view at any given time.

They include the Cleveland Clinic, Progressive Insurance, Metro Health, Summa Health, the Union Club of Cleveland and University Hospitals. Each tour will be led by the collection’s curator, who’ll talk about its history, its holdings and more. And each tour will feature a work by an area artist who has won the Cleveland Arts Prize, who will join the group to talk about their work. Each evening will include a post-tour reception with wine and light refreshments.

The first tour, of the renowned Progressive Art Collection, led by curator H. Scott Westover, will feature a work by 2022 CAP winner Amber D. Kempthorn.

Each tour is $125, or $700 for the whole package. Go here to purchase tickets.

This is a unique opportunity for the public to see one of Cleveland’s most prolific art collections which is not usually open for public display. We hope people will take advantage and order tickets before Friday, March 24!
