Women on CMNH Staff Are Featured on Its Women in Science Day

Sat 2/11 @ 10AM-5PM

It’s no secret that as long as any of us have been alive, women have been discouraged from going into science careers and their accomplishments are generally underrated or dismissed if they do.

On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History calls attention to the ways in which the museum is always working to change that narrative. Female scientists who work for the museum will talk about what it took for them to get where they are, who helped them and how to find your own mentor.

They include women who now have such roles at CMNH as Curator of Human Health and Evolutionary Medicine Dr. Nicole Burt; Curator of Invertebrate Zoology Dr. Nicole Gunter; and Assistant Curator of Human Origins Dr. Emma Finestone. In fact, five of the women featured have PhDs and one is a PhD candidate. But you don’t have to have a PhD to find a place in the world of science: among the other presenters are the museum’s wildlife staff, educators and digital assets manager Hailey Majewski, pictured above.

There’ll be plenty going on to get girls (and others) excited about science: animal presentations, 3D scanning demos, planetarium shows, and more. This day is fun for the entire family and it’s included with regular museum admission.
