Groundworks DanceTheater and Collaborators Debut Immersive Piece at 78th Street Studios

Fri 2/10 @ 7:30PM

Last October GroundWorks DanceTheater premiered the staged version of the dance film Transcendence by GroundWorks Executive Artistic Director David Shimotakahara’s, blending both film and live performance. It’s inspired by Olivier Messaien’s “Quartet for the End of Time,” written by the French composer in 1941 when he was a prisoner of war in a German camp.

Now the company will present it again to mark the opening of “Transcendence: the installation” at 78th Street Studios’ smARTspace, with CityMusic Cleveland musicians joining the dancers, with the immersive, mixed-media installation serving as a setting for the film, dance and music.

The original dance piece/film was re-imagined by artist Miriam Bennett and 78th Street Studios for the installation, which will be on view through February 24. Tickets to the performance are $25; you can stop in and see the installation for free.
