Woman-Led Cleveland Global Music Ensemble Performs at Root Cafe

Fri 12/2 @ 7:30PM

Afro-Colombian cellist/vocalist Carolina Borja and bassoonist Arleigh Savage formed indie global music ensemble Sororii in 2021, with a mission to promote women’s voices from diverse cultures in music.

They released an album called Esperanza in May, featuring eight haunting, mostly instrumental, compositions, with the intimate, subtle sounds of the two lead instruments setting the tone and Theresa May’s flugelhorn, Laura Lambuley’s piano and Baba Jubal’s African percussion adding tonal coloration. They say they “intend this work to be a body of work that models new leadership for this turbulent times of societal fragmentation. The spirit of the album evocates ancestry, female voices, and music expressions from around the world.”

You can check out the album here, or better still, go catch the band when they perform at Lakewood’s Root Café this weekend. Go here for more information.
