Rally for Reproductive Rights at My Body My Vote in Lakewood

Sun 10/9 @ 11-noon

“Abortion isn’t on people’s minds,” some pundits are telling us, as those on the right claim polls are showing the issue doesn’t matter to voters. Well, we’ll see. Scoffers who insist people are more concerned about the economy may underestimate the degree to which women in particular understand that having children is the #1 economic issue facing families & the loss of reproductive rights can mean daunting poverty. That’s why you’re seeing ongoing demonstrations and rally supporting reproductive rights and pushing back against legislators who want to impose their fringe religious beliefs on everyone.

This week people will be gathering in Lakewood Park for a My Body My Vote rally. Speakers include Lakewood-based state senator Nickie Antonio, a consistent fighter for everyone’s rights; Cleveland Heights-based county councilor Cheryl Stephens, now running for lieutenant governor on a ticket with Nan Whaley; Democratic county auditor candidate Taylor Sappington; and Democratic candidate for state representative Troy Greenfield from western Cuyahoga County.

Sponsors include the Cuyahoga Democratic Women’s Caucus, Mobilize the Vote NEO, GRR (Grass Roots Resistance), Lakewood Democrats and Stonewall Democrats. It’s family-friendly and you should bring your daughters because they need to be aware of the limited future some politicians have in mind for them.
