It’s Summer in Your Mouth at Countryside Market’s Tomato Tasting

Sat 8/13 @9AM-noon

We’re getting to that time of year when the tomato harvest is at its peak. And there’s nothing like eating a ripe tomato that’s just been plucked from the vine.  So it’s the perfect time for the Countryside Market’s annual tomato tasting.

And if you’ve been noticing an increase in the number of unusual-looking tomatoes in supermarkets in recent years, but aren’t sure whether you’d like them, this is the chance to taste more than two dozen types and maybe find some new favorites — available from vendors at the market.

In addition to tomato tasting, there’ll be tomato-focused kids activities including a tomato scavenger hunt and (inevitably) face painting, the bookmobile from the Akron-Summit County Public Library, live music by Stone Cold Soup, and the Summit Country Master Gardeners to give you pointers on how to grow your own tomatoes better.

On top of that, home gardeners can enter contests for the heaviest tomato by weight and the weirdest looking tomato, with winners awarded a Countryside hat and $25 in market tokens. Register at the Tomato Tasting tent by 9:30aml winner will be announced at 11:30.

The event is free although donations are appreciated.
