Cleveland Peace Action Remembers the Bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki

Sun 8/7 @ 7:30PM

It’s a tradition among Cleveland peace activists to present a program in August commemorating the anniversary of the dropping of the first atomic bombs on Hiroshima (August 6, 1945) and Negasaki (August 9, 1945) at the end of World War II, which ushered in a new era of warfare ad dramatically upped the ante on civilian casualties. It’s a chance to advocate for a world free of nuclear weapons, something activists have been doing since 1945 and have continued to push for through many world crises.

For the 77th anniversary, Cleveland Peace Action is hosting a gathering at sunset at the Wade Park Lagoon at the south end of the Cleveland Museum of Art “to commemorate these tragedies and reaffirm our commitment to a world free of nuclear weapons. There will be speakers, music, and poetry and at sunset at 8:40, they’ll end the program by launching Japanese candle lanterns on the lagoon.

All are welcome.
