Registration Deadline for August 2 Primary Is July 5

What? You didn’t know there was another primary on August 2? Yes, there is, thanks to the determination of the Republican members of the redistricting commission to hold out on producing legal maps until they were allowed to use illegal, unconstitutional ones.

Tragically, they succeeded. While they managed to secure (also illegal) congressional maps by the May primary, they hung on and kept bickering about the state legislative maps. So that election had to be kicked down the road until August at great cost to the taxpayers but great benefit to the GOP majority, since they’ve guaranteed this will be an ultra-low turnout election.

You probably don’t even know who your state senator and representative are — and part of their strategy in gerrymandering and creating confusion and the maps is to try to make sure you don’t know whose district you’re in.

But the state legislature is critical: it’s the GOP supermajority there that’s flooding the state with guns, banning abortion and scapegoating trans kids. And it will be determined by a handful of voters whether we have a legislature focused on targeting the one trans girl in Ohio playing high school sports or dealing with issues to improve quality of life for all Ohioans. Yeah, I know. Dream on …

So please vote! Find out who’s on the ballot and register to vote if you haven’t already done by googling “board of elections” and your country name. Go here for the Cuyahoga County BOE.
