Four-Day Re:Sound Festival Offers Uncommon Music

Thu 6/9-Sun 6/12

Cleveland Uncommon Sound Project’s annual Re: Sound festival is a four-day feast of music your average pop/rock music fan would consider inaccessible: open-ended experimental music, pushing the boundaries of what sound can do.

The Cleveland Uncommon Sound Project (CUSP) says that it “strive[s] to give a voice to adventurous creators and performing artists of diverse backgrounds who need a platform for their work. By presenting innovative events in a variety of settings, offering engaging programming, organizing outreach activities, and providing ways for audiences to interact with musicians, CUSP aims to ignite curiosity about new music.”

Re: Sound is a big step in that direction. It kicks off Thursday June 9 @ 7:30pm with New York’s Warp Trio and Cleveland’s Robin Blake Sound Experiment at the BOP STOP, followed by a “Drone Improv Afterparty” at Terrestrial Brewing, where listeners can interact with the musicians.

On Friday June 10, Warp Trio will do a 5pm workshop at the Music Settlement Ohio City, with an 8pm concert by Eunbi Kim and SLOWSPIN at the BOP STOP. Saturday June 11 is packed with events, including a 2pm workshop at the Music Settlement Ohio City with Emilie Fortin, a 4pm concert at Tremont’s Kaiser Gallery featuring Danielle Kuntz and DechoVoche, and a 9pm show at CODA in Tremont with Elephant Ornament, Emilie Fortin and Nick Zoulek.

It wraps up on Sunday June 12 @ 2pm with a performance at the BOP STOP by Pink Noise.
