Cleveland Story Club Shares Tales of Freedom

Thu 6/30 @ 7:30PM

Story Club Cleveland is back at Cleveland Heights’ CLE Urban Winery this Thursday and is ready to kick some ass.

Its theme this month, in keeping with the Fourth of July, is “Freedom,” something we’re seeing systematically stripped away by the very people who yell about “freeeeee-dumb” the loudest while waving the American flag.

As usual, there’ll be a couple of “celebrity” storytellers, with slots for audience members to sign up for as well. Each will tell a true personal-experience story that sheds light on what freedom means to them.

“Is it a hermit sitting in a cave with no social media to judge them, but also no memes to exhale through their nose at?” they say. “Is it clocking out of your 9-5 and having the rest of the evening to yourself (after you get groceries, do laundry, pick kids up from school, cook, clean, work out, etc.)? Is it the ability to do exactly what you want to with your body regardless of what old men think?”

Guest storytellers are author/comedian/college professor Ken Schneck, founder of statewide digital LGBTQ+ publication the Buckeye Flame, and improv actor Sam Dee. Story Club CLE founder Dan Norris hosts.

Sign up for the open slots starts at 7pm. If more than three people sign up, names will be drawn to pick the story tellers. Stories should be no more than eight minute, 1,300 words.

It’s $10 at the door or in advance online.
