Vocalist Helen Welch Performs Tribute to Songwriters of the 60s and 70s

Fri 5/27 @ 8PM

Since moving to Cleveland more than 20 years ago, British-born actress/vocalist Helen Welch has maintained an active presence in the local music scene, applying her jazzy pop vocals style to Christmas-themed shows, shows of Carpenters tunes and the music of the Beatles. She’s performed with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, the Akron Symphony Orchestra, and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra.

Now she’s bringing a new show to the Akron Civic Theatre’s Knight Stage, titled “Songwriters Hall of Fame.” She and her band, featuring drummer Anthony Taddeo, upright bassist Bryan Thomas and pianist Joe Leaman, will perform some of the best-known music music by beloved pop/rock/R&B songwriters of (mostly) the 60s and 70s, such as Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Billy Joel and more. Some of the selections they’ll perform include “Fire and Rain,” “Both Sides Now,” Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and Stand by Me.”

Tickets are $25.
