Local Musicians Perform a Free Outdoor Concert on Waterloo

Sammy DeLeon

Sat 5/21 @1PM

We recently got the disappointing news that photographer Michael Loderstedt is closing his gallery Photocentric on the corner of East 156th and Waterloo in North Collinwood’s Waterloo Arts District. In addition to the gallery, he helped develop the adjoining vacant lot, including putting together a stage, dubbed the Blue Windmill Stage.

That stage will continue to be put to good use for events such as this Saturday’s Waterloo Makes Music, a free concert series put together by the nonprofit Cleveland Rocks: Past, Present and Future.

Neighbors and visitors will get a big helping of music other parts of the American hemisphere, performed by Clevelanders whose roots are there. Puerto Rican timbales player Sammy DeLeon is well known in the area for the Latin jazz ensembles of various sizes that he leads, performing high-energy, upbeat music. He’s almost always joined by jazz pianist Jackie Warren, and she’ll be with him on Waterloo. Guitarist/vocalist Moises Borges draws on the music of his native Brazil in his performances, both with his ensemble and as a solo artist, performing sultry samba and boss nova based-music.

The event is free.
