Coit Farm Market Celebrates 90th Birthday with French Toast Breakfast

Sat 5/21 @ 10AM-1PM

The Coit Road Farmers Marker is unique among Cleveland-area markets. It’s the only one to have its own, dedicated building to hold year-round markets. It’s also the oldest market, growing out of a farmers co-op that began in the 1920s.

Now 90 years old, it sits in one of the area’s poorest communities, East Cleveland, and has many programs to boost the health of that community such as the visiting Care-a-Van providing screenings and information, free cooking demonstrations, a production kitchen and a community garden across the street. Its local vendors, some of them small growers and producers right in the neighborhood, even offer vegan and gluten-free foods.

As a nonprofit market, it needs to raise money to further its programs. So it’s celebrating its 90th birthday with a French toast breakfast. For $10 you get toast, maple syrup, a drink and either bacon, chicken sausage or extra toast (for you vegetarians). They’ll also have a souvenir program, an audio-visual history of the market and a planning station for visitors to give input on what they like about it and what they’d like to see there. Come early and shop first – the market opens at 8am.
