Cleveland Jazz Orchestra Performs with Special Guest, Violinist Regina Carter

The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra’s Women in Jazz season continues with “The Art of Jazz Violin,” with special featured guest, Grammy-nominated MacArthur Fellow Regina Carter.

Detroit-born Carter was a prodigy, beginning her music studies at age 2 and her violin studies at 4. As a teenager she played with the Detroit Symphony Youth orchestra and took master classes with Itzhak Perlman and Yehudi Menuhin. She studied classical violin at the New England Conservatory before switching her studies to jazz at Oakland University outside Detroit.

She released her first solo album in 1995 and since then has released another nine albums as band leader or co-leader; she’s also performed on countless albums as a sideperson including with Cassandra Wilson, Wynton Marsalis, Elliott Sharp and Eddie Palmieri, among others. She both leads her own jazz ensemble and performs with orchestras as a guest soloist. She’s adept at using her instrument in various genres including jazz, classical, Latin, R&B, pop, blues and more.
