Akron’s Marc Lee Shannon Debuts New Album at Knight Stage

Sat 3/5 @ 8PM

Akron guitarist Marc Lee Shannon got the whole “move to L.A.” thing out of his system early heading out west when he was just 19 to attend the Guitar Institute of Hollywood and spending a decade performing with bands in the city’s roots rock/alt country scene. Moving back home in the mid 1990s, he hooked up with Michael Stanley and the Resonators and performed with the band until 2019 when the pandemic shut things down and then Michael passed away. He also played with Michael’s just-for-fun band, the Midlife Chryslers.

Michael produced Shannon’s first solo album, 2007’s Any Ordinary Man, released on his Line Level label. It took a while for him to follow it up, but he did so in 2018 with Walk This Road, produced by Ryan Humbert of Akron’s alt-country Shootouts.

He didn’t wait so long to produce more music this time. Last August he released the single “Steady On,” addressing Michael’s death and its impact on him. It features Resonator Jennifer Lee on harmony vocals. Now he’s debuting his new album Lucky 7 at the Akron Civic Theatre’s Knight Stage this Saturday, March 5 (the first anniversary of Michael Stanley’s death.)  It’s again produced by Humbert and has soulful southern blues/rock feel that Humbert calls “Marc Lee Shannon visits Stax Records.” Lucky 7 also celebrates Shannon’s seven years of sobriety, something he’s as passionate about as his music.

Tickets are $20 at the Akron Civic Theatre box office at 330-253-2488 or at akroncivic.com.
