Cleveland Pops Orchestra Welcomes New Orleans-Style Trumpeter

Sat 1/22 @ 8PM

The Cleveland Pops Orchestra has not one, but TWO, concerts this weekend, in two different venues. The second takes place at Severance Hall and features special guest musician, jazz trumpeter/vocalist Byron Stripling who has performed with pops orchestras across the country and is the artistic director/conductor of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra. He also teaches at the Ohio State University School of Music.

Stripling’s specialty is bringing the New Orleans sound, inspired by Louis Armstrong, to orchestral pops programs, channeling the influential jazz great in his playing, vocals and patter. He’s especially known for his exuberant version of the classic “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In,” sure to blow any residual stuffiness out of Severance Hall, not that CPO’s artistic director/conductor/ clarinetist Carl Topilow doesn’t do that every time he steps up to the podium.

Tickets are $21 and up: go here to buy them.
