BOP STOP Honors Elder Statesman of Local Jazz Scene

Sun 1/23 @ 7-9PM

*We just learned that Eddie Baccus Sr. passed away today, Sunday January 23, the day he was to be honored at the BOP STOP. The show will pay tribute to his music and be a benefit for his family.

Jazz organ player Eddie Baccus Sr. has been a beloved part of the Cleveland music scene since just about forever (the 60s). He met a fellow blind musician, the great flute/sax player Roland Kirk, at the Ohio State School for the Blind in late 40s, but chose a different path and opted to stay closer to home than Kirk. While Kirk toured the world and died young at age 41 of a stroke in 1977, Baccus has continued to roll his Hammond B-3 into area clubs, performing in a range of jazz styles, and collaborating with and mentoring other players, such as Joe Lovano, Ernie Krivda and his sax-playing son Eddie Baccus Jr.

The BOP STOP is hosting an evening called “A Musical Celebration of Eddie Baccus Sr,” which will feature many northeast Ohio jazz stars and special guests. In-person tickets are $20. You can also listen for free on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page. That’s free but you’re encouraged to make a donation here.
