Late last year, the Akron Civic Theatre opened its Knight Stage, a more intimate (200-seat) theater space. Now it’s opened yet another small space called Wild Oscar’s. It’s a 60-capacity general admission venues underneath the theater on the Lock 4 level onto which it opens.

It opens the space this weekend with Hear What’s in The Heart — A Shoemaker’s Tale, featuring actor Steven Scionti, who created and performs the one-man show. It revolves around the gathering of a Sicilian-American family for the funeral of Scionti’s grandfather, Angelo Morello, a shoe repairman. In it, Scionti plays the roles of various family members and friends as he travels in time to fill in the background of their stories. He’s already performed the show in Los Angeles, New York City and Westchester.

The show will be performed on Friday and Saturday @ 8pm for the next three weekends. Tickets are $30. Call the Akron Civic box office at 330-253-2488 or go to akroncivic.com.
