Downtown Kent Hosts Family-Friendly Literary Holiday Walk

Sat 11/24-Mon 12/27

Sat 11/27 @ 10:0AM-1:30PM

Once again Main Street Kent is hosting one of its downtown walks, revolving around a book and inviting families to visit downtown businesses and take in the story at their own pace, perhaps stopping to do some shopping or get some food and refreshments.

This time, it’s partnering with Rotary Club of Kent and Talk On Speech-Language Therapy to offer a walk based on Dav Pilkey’s 1991 book Dragon’s Merry Christmas, a heartwarming instructional book about a dragon who ends up giving his presents away to people who need them more. Different pages of the story will be in different business windows, with picture-based summary sentences for visual support and access for those who use augmentative and alternative communication methods.  Warm beverages and treat will be available too, and donations of warm clothing will be accepted at each business.

The walk starts at Kent Natural Foods Co-op at 151 East Main, where printed maps will be available; maps can also be downloaded here.

While the display will be up on Wednesday November 24, there’s an official kickoff party at the Kent Stage Saturday November 27. There’ll be free copies of the book to the first 50 kids, treats and bookmarks. The book will be read aloud at three story times at 11pm, noon and 1pm.
