Tuesday November 2 Is Election Day in Ohio

Tue 11/2 @ 6:30AM-7:30PM

Yes, it’s an off-off year for elections — no presidential glamour.  But there’s a lot at stake. Across the region, communities are electing mayors, city council representatives, municipal judges and school board members. And those people can have a lot more impact on your life than who’s elected president. Polls are open from 6:30am-7:30pm. If you are in line at 7:30 you can still vote.

Cleveland has a high-profile mayoral election to replace the retiring Frank Jackson who has been mayor for four terms — 16 years. There’s opportunity for big change (we’ve endorsed Justin Bibb; see our endorsement here). And with several incumbent members out (including Bibb’s opponent Kevin Kelley, Bashear Jones, who ran unsuccessfully in the mayoral primary and the now-convicted and prison-bound Ken Johnson), Cleveland City Council will be getting some new blood no matter what happens.

In cities around northeast Ohio, extremist candidates are challenging for school board positions on open racism, rejection of health and safety measures, blatant lies about what’s being taught, and open hostility to public education. There’s a lot at stake.

Sadly, these municipal elections, which are so important, tend to have very low turnout. We get it: people are discouraged by some of the stuff they see happening in government, but no, “everyone” isn’t corrupt or incompetent, and the more people put that idea out there, the fewer good people want to run for office. Go online to your board of elections (Google your county and “board of elections”) to learn what is on your ballot, and then check out your local League of Women Voters site. This nonpartisan group solicits statements and information from all candidates so you can read what candidates have to say about their experience, policies and positions.

CoolCleveland has endorsed  Justin Bibb for Cleveland Mayor  Stephanie Howse for Ward 7 ,  Erick Walker for Ward 4  and is strongly urging a  YES vote on Issue 24 .

The higher the turnout the more accountable our government will be. Do us all a favor and get yourself to the polls.

  1. hank wait

Mike White endorsed Bibb. I will not vote for him. People White thought were fit for a position were usually incompetent, mean spirited, petty and vengeful. IMO!
