The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony returns to Cleveland this year on October 30. But things kick off on Sunday October 24 with a big, free community party on the Rock Hall’s plaza and lobby to which everyone is invited to enjoy live local music, vendors, information from community partners and fun activities for both kids and adults. And fireworks!!! In addition, admission to the Rock Hall is free to Ohioans with a reservation.

There’ll be two outdoor stages of music. Cleveland arts prize winners, jazz/R&B/spoken word ensemble Mourning [A] BLKstar headlines the main stage on the Plaza at 7pm. Other performers include former member of Michael Stanley’s Resonators Marc Lee Shannon, Akron’s funky/jazzy Nathan Paul and the Admirables, Tri-C High School Rock Off winners Detention and members of the Resident Rockers team.

Sometime in the early afternoon, there’ll be a community line dance to (oddly) Kraftwerk’s “Trans-Europe Express,” supposedly demonstrating, says the Rock Hall, “how music transcends race.” A festival village with feature local record stores and club with their merch available for purchase including the Rock Hall’s own store, The Current Year, A Separate Reality, Brittany’s Record Shop, the BOP STOP, the Beachland Ballroom ad the Grog Shop, as well as the performing bands.

There’ll also be balloon twisting, chalk murals, an instrument petting zoo and more fun things to do on the plaza from 10am-4pm. The fireworks blast off at 8pm (it’s getting dark early so we no longer have to wait until 10!) and will be set to music by this year’s Rock Hall inductees: Tina Turner, Carole King, The Go-Go’s, JAY-Z, Foo Fighters, Todd Rundgren, Kraftwerk, Charley Patton, Gil Scott-Heron, LL Cool J, Billy Preston and Randy Rhoads.
