Lakeland Gallery Hosts Party for its Skull & Skeleton Show

Thu 10/28 @ 6-9PM

The Skull & Skelton in Art VII: Folk Art to Pop Culture is currently on view at the Gallery at Lakeland Community College. The massive show, curated by the gallery’s coordinator Mary Urbas, features more than 100 artists, primarily local and regional but many coming from across the country and even one from overseas (Denmark).

“This show is about embracing life and death and our mortality,” says Urbas. “To help celebrate, I am excited that for the first time in show history, The Lakeland Hispanic club will be collaborating with the gallery by creating an ofrenda — an offering for the dead, traditionally prepared during “Dia de los Muertos,” or “The Day of the Dead” celebration.”

The packed galleries feature skeleton-themed works in a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, photography, drawing, collage, textiles & fiber, ceramics, glass, wood, jewelry, mixed media and more.

While the show will be on view through Friday November 5, a good time to see it, meet some of the artists, and bask in the vibe is during the costume party/market on Thursday October 28, when artists will be selling skull- and skeleton-themed items and local artist Bili Kribbs will be live painting.
