PHOTOSTREAM: Skunkfest in North Ridgeville by Anastasia Pantsios

Sat 9/11

Once again, pet skunk owners convened at North Ridgeville’s South Central Park for Skunkfest, a day of conviviality, information sharing, pet admiring, refreshments, vendors and animal rescues, including a pug rescue, a guinea pig rescue and the always-present Ferrets Unlimited. Playing with their ferrets is always a high point but alas, this year the ferrets stayed home because they are susceptible to COVID.

Another high point is the Skunkfest Olympic Games. It’s always suspenseful to watch owners try to cajole their skunks into running the fenced-in course. Suffice it to say that when it comes to racing a course on command, skunks are basically cats in disguise.

The annual event is organized by Deb Cipriani of Skunk Haven, a rescue that re-homes domestic skunks (they are not taken from the wild) whose owners are giving them up.
