09.11.2021 Mexican Independence Day

Sat 9/11

While still eclipsed by Puerto Ricans, the largest Spanish-speaking group in Northeast Ohio, the Mexican community is growing and has already scored themselves a garden at the Cleveland Cultural Gardens in Rockefeller Park. That’s still to be developed.

But this year, the community moved its nascent Mexican Independence Day celebration to the Cultural Garden’s International Peace Plaza for the first time, for an evening of food, cultural vendors, music by vocalists, a guitarist and a mariachi band, and a couple of dance ensembles, with an especially riveting performance from Grupo de Danza Guadalupana.

Was there a taco truck? Yes, there was. And the line was long. Was Cleveland burlesque queen and outspoken proud Mexican Bella Sin there? You couldn’t miss her!

And what a wonderful celebration it was! The music, the pagentry, the food, and mostly the beautiful kind people who made up this fantastic day. You didn’t have to speak Spanish to feel included in the fun and love that created a good time for all!
