Fine Arts Association Opens Season with “Steel Magnolias”

Fri 9/17-Sun 10/3

The Fine Arts Association in Willoughby opens its 2020-2021 theater season, which it’s dubbed “Back in the Spotlight,” with the stage version of the 1989 film Steel Magnolias. It’s one of those plays attractive to community theaters where women actors tend to outnumber men since it’s the story of six southern women whose lives revolve around a beauty salon, where they forge friendships as they deal with life-and-death issues.

While the FAA production won’t have the advantage of a cast that included Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Olympia Dukakis and Daryl Hannah, the heart-warming, tear-jerking material is moving with any cast.

Performances take place on September 17-18, September 24-25 and October 1 & 2 @ 7:30pm, and on September 19 and 26, and October 3 at 2pm. The October 3 performance is sign-interpreted.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for students and seniors and $10 for kids 10 and under. Fr tickets go to fineartsassociation.org or call 440-951-7500.

The theater’s season continuers with Miracle on 34th Street November 26-December 19; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (February 11-27, 2022); the FAA One-Act Festival (April 1-10, 2022); and Alice in Danceland (June 10-26)
