Eat and Polka Til You Drop at the Slovenian Grape Festival

Sun 9/26 @ 2:45PM

Before the cold weather sets in, there’s another polka party going on at the Slovenian SNPJ Farm in Kirtland this weekend: the Slovenian Grape Festival.

The day starts with a polka parade. Attendees are invited to wear Slovenian costumes and join the sing-along parade led by accordionist Tony Fortuna, kicking off at 2:45pm. Joe Valencic of the Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame will have song sheets and the story behind the tradition.

Following the parade, from 3-7pm, the Joey Tomsick Orchestra will play four hours of music to keep the dance floor filled. If dancing isn’t your thing, play some balinca (bocce). Plenty of stick-to-your-bones food will be available, including smoked Slovenian sausages, roast beef and homemade donuts. And the dance pavilion will be adorned with grapevines and hanging treats to grab when no one is looking.

Admission is $8, with food and refreshments available stating at 2pm. But if you wear a Slovenian costume or bring your accordion, admission is free! (18 and under are also free). Arrive at 2:15 to take part in the parade.
