Bay Village Couple Hosts Benefit for Fair, Transparent Redistricting

Sun 9/26 @ 2-5PM

So we’ve just seen the Republican members of the legislative redistricting commission break faith with Ohio voters, break the law and violate the Ohio State Constitution to create new statehouse districts that give outsized representation to Republicans. This despite a 2015 ballot initiative in which more than 70% of the voters said “We want a fair, representative, transparent process.”  Two commission members, Governor Mike DeWine and Secretary of State Frank LaRose, even lamented being “forced” to vote for such unfair maps — ones they themselves created.

What next? Fair Districts Ohio isn’t done fighting and it’s likely that the next step is court challenges to maps that give supermajorities in both houses of the legislature to a party that typically wins just over 50% of the vote.

Bay Village residents Tom Norton and Karen Bradley are hosting a benefit for fair maps at their home Sunday September 26 @ 2-5pm. A short program from 3:30-4pm will feature speakers from ACLU Ohio, AFL-CIO, the Ohio Council of Churches and the League of Women Voters of Ohio. Minimum donation is $50.

RSVP to Sherry at srose@lwvohio.org to get the address of the event. There’s more information about the status of the redistricting process at fairdistrictsohio.org.
