North Coast Harbor Hosts First-Ever Christmas in July

Sat 7/24 @ noon

Christmas in July has always been a big bar event, since bars are always looking for an excuse throw a party (look what a big deal they’ve made out of Cinco de Mayo, in recent years, which, no, it isn’t “the Mexican Mardi Gras). And of course it’s a big deal on Put-in-Bay with its concentration of party bars. But outside of those confines, it hasn’t gained that much traction.

Maybe it’s release from the pandemic, but the City of Cleveland, Downtown Cleveland Alliance and Oasis Marinas are hosting the first ever Christmas in July party at North Coast Harbor, with a themed movie night, volleyball tournament and lighted boat contest.

The debut of Platform Beer’s South Pole Elf Christmas Ale gets things started at noon with sales benefiting the Downtown Cleveland Homeless Fund. Food trucks will open at the same time, and Bubblepalooza runs from noon-2pm.

From 2-6pm kids can have photos taken with Santa for free; the volleyball tournament begins at 5. And the movies start at 6:30 with the 2018 film The Grinch, followed by — no surprise — the 1983 classic A Christmas Story, parts of which were filmed in Cleveland so it’s become iconic here. The lighted boat parade launches at dusk.
