Riversweep Is Back to Clean Up Along the River

Sat 5/8 @ 9-11AM

Yet another event as returned to the calendar, with some changes, when Canalway Partners Riversweep takes place Saturday May 8. For 30 years, the event has been engaging volunteers to pick up trash, including illegally dumped tires, to improve areas slated to become parks or trails.

“In 2019,” they tell us, “832 volunteers removed over 58 tons of trash, including 440  tires and went through 30 gallons of paint to cover up graffiti.” In 2020 not so much, so sign up and get going in 2021.

Advance registration is required, and volunteers will need to go to the website and sign up for their chosen site (Groups put together for particular sites will need to sign up as well). There’ll be both land-based sites and sites where you can put your paddleboard or kayak to use cleaning debris from the river.

When volunteers check in at their site — masks required! — they’ll be given latex gloves, garden gloves, garage bags, a map and a Riversweep t-shirt. Vounteers will work in teams of up to ten — bring your own team or they’re assign you to one.

Go here to register.
