PHOTOSTREAM: Rockefeller Greenhouse Iris Garden by Anastasia Pantsios

05.19.2021 Rockefeller Greenhouse Iris Garden

Since 2012, Rockefeller Greenhouse’s Willott Iris Garden has been the place to go when these showy flowers start to bloom: some as early as late March, some into late June, but they’re at their peak right now. Last year, with the Greenhouse gates closed, we were only able to peak at them through the fence.

This year, you can go right in (it’s free) and walk around to marvel at the 300 varieties in different sizes, patterns and colors — and their volunteers are constantly experimenting to create new hybrids. If you’re quick, you might be able to snag a few for your garden: they also sell potted roots of about 50 of the varieties to support their work, but they’re selling out fast!
