Oberlin Conservatory Livestreams Its Annual Piano Extravaganza

Mon 5/17 @ 7:30PM

The Piano Extravaganza is a tradition at Oberlin Conservatory, featuring a host of performances by faculty, staff and graduating seniors to raise money for projects such as piano department scholarships and master classes.

But everything is different this year, and now, for the first time, the event will be streamed live as the graduates from the classes of 2020 and 2021 join faculty and staff for a series of performances, including a virtual performance of Beethoven’s 32 Variations in C Minor, WoO 80, by the graduating piano students.

The diverse group of featured pieces includes Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, Leonard Bernstein’s “Mambo” from West Side Story, and Scott Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag,” among others.

They describe the event as “free with a donation,” and are clearly hoping that by expanding their audience, they’ll get more people excited about the mission of Oberlin Conservatory’s piano department and eager to support it.
